Summer food gardening class in Ward 5 - starts April 18!


Please help spread the word - NFI's Summer Food Gardening Course still has spaces still available!  

All sessions are taught at our Fort Totten Garden.

No prior experience is necessary! Total beginners are welcome – as are growers with some experience who want to take it to the next level.

Our all-inclusive summer gardening course begins Saturday, April 18. Expert instruction, your own garden plot, and all materials are provided.

April 18 – August 8, from 10:00am -12:00 noon

Session Topics:

  • Planning your garden & basic soil needs
  • Transplanting and seeding
  • Mulching, irrigation
  • Pruning, thinning, staking
  • Organic pest management
  • Composting
  • Plant disease identification and treatment
  • Weeding & good maintenance
  • Harvesting techniques
  • Class wrap-up
  • + Weekly staffed hours for questions
