Reminder: Edgewood neighborhood cleanup TOMORROW!
Dear Friend of Edgewood:
This Saturday, November 1st, is the monthly Edgewood neighborhood cleanup and BBQ. Please come out and join your neighbors if you can, rain or shine.
We meet in front of the Rec. Center (300 Evarts St. NE) at 10:30. The cleanup is sponsored by the Friends of Edgewood, and starts here the first Saturday of each month -- over five years running! We provide bags and gloves, plus hot dogs, veggie dogs, and light refreshments afterward, around noon. Come join friendly neighbors old and new, to clear litter (including Halloween candy wrappers!) from our neighborhood and chat about local news, etc. Free food and drink for volunteers.
You're invited to stop by and say HI, even if you only have a little time and can't stick around for lunch, or can only help for a couple minutes. If you can't come out at all, keeping the area around your house clean helps us cover more areas!

Free Events in NoMa This Week: Art Opening and Pumpkin Carving Happy Hour
WASHINGTON, DC, October 20, 2014: Join your NoMa neighbors for happy hour this week at a Lobby Project art opening on Tuesday, October 21 between 6 and 8 PM, and the annual Pumpkin Carving Party on Thursday, October 23 between 4 and 7 PM.
Lobby Project Art Opening featuring Michael Crossett:
Join local art lovers to celebrate the newest art installation in the Lobby Project. The art opening features art by Michael Crossett, a Washington, DC-based painter, photographer and graphic designer. The event is free and open to the public, and light fare and drinks will be provided. RSVP for the opening here.

NoMa’s art openings, part of the Lobby Project, display original works from DC and Baltimore artists. Since 2013, the Lobby Project has brought comfortable furniture, great art and programming to the lobby of 1200 First Street, NE through a partnership with Washington Project for the Arts. The Lobby Project is made possible through a grant from the DC Office of Planning. Additional support comes from Union Kitchen, Ayers Saint Gross, Uncle Chip’s, Interface and Polinger Shannon & Luchs.
Pumpkin Carving Happy Hour:
Visit NoMa’s annual Pumpkin Carving Happy Hour on Thursday, October 23 and carve a free pumpkin! Pumpkins, carving utensils, live music, petting zoo and scavenger hunt are free. Enjoy delicious food and seasonal alcoholic beverages (for the over 21 crowd) from Union Kitchen bar and vendors Nutrition Synergies (savory and sweet menu items) and The Popcorn Queens, which will be available for purchase. The Pumpkin Carving will take place on the grassy field at 1100 First Street, NE from 4-7 PM.
Don’t want to get your hands in pumpkin guts? This year’s Pumpkin Carving Party offers plenty of other free activities including live bluegrass music from the Page County Ramblers, face painting, bunnies, chicks, sheep and more at the cutest petting zoo in the city, and a candyscavenger hunt at 5 PM.

Hello Met Branch Trail supporters,
Many of you know Paul Meijer, a long-time D.C. resident and tireless supporter of the Met Branch Trail. As a leader of the MBT Coalition, Paul advocated for a complete, safe, well-connected Met Branch Trail for decades, often keeping the idea of the MBT alive when the city had all but forgotten it. In 2010, when the newest section of the MBT opened in the Edgewood and Eckington neighborhoods, Rails-to-Trails Conservancy recognized Paul’s contributions with a small grant to create a tulip garden along the trail (a nod to Paul’s Dutch heritage). With the near completion of the new pedestrian bridge, we’re ready to plant Paul’s garden but we need your help!

Single-Lane Road Closures on Rhode Island Ave., NE
Between Reed St., NE to 4th Street, NE,
Inbound Curb Lane Closure on Rhode Island Avenue, NE, until October 24, 2014
The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will institute one-lane closures fromThursday, October 16th, to Friday, October 24th, from 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM, on the inbound curb lane on Rhode Island Avenue, NE. This will allow DDOT to perform electrical conduit installation work within the sidewalk area along Rhode Island Avenue. This work is a part of the construction project for the pedestrian/bicycle bridge over CSX Railroad tracks and travels between the Metropolitan Branch Trail and Rhode Island Avenue Metro Rail Station.

First Screening of Digitally Remastered "Halloween (1978)" on Oct 25
Rhode Island Row, in DC’s Brentwood neighborhood, will be the first venue to screen the digitally remastered “Halloween (1978)” film on a 20-foot outdoor jumbo screen on Saturday, October 25th at 7 pm. The event will feature an outdoor beer garden and food by Bergami’s Pizza. This event is 21 and over.

Monroe Street Market Grand Opening!
Grand Opening Celebration Event at Monroe Street Market
What: Join Monroe Street Market for a Grand Opening celebration from 5-9pm! Enjoy live music from Lloyd Dobler Effect. Beer, wine, and food will be available for purchase from the newly opened Brookland Pint and samples available from &pizza, Busboys and Poets, and Potbelly’s.
The Grand Opening Ceremony will begin at 6:30pm with performances from The Catholic University student group, Redline A Cappella, and opening remarks from special guests. Lastly, a vibrant lighting of the Arts Walk Tower will add to the festival mood in celebration of the Brookland community.
The first 100 guests to arrive will receive a signature Monroe Street Market glass and ticket for the Brookland Pint beer garden.

New Playground in Edgewood!
Thanks to Inspired Teaching School, Kaboom and AmeriCorps a new playground is coming to Edgewood next to the Shaed school building. On September 11, 2014 the National Day of Service hundreds of volunteers will come together and complete a playground, garden and mural to make a new play area for the charter schools and the neighborhood. After school hours and the weekends the space will be open for the neighborhood to enjoy.
There will be three prep days as well prior to the build day. Volunteers are requested so if you can please come out! All volunteers must be 16 or older and more information will be coming on times for each day. They need about 20 volunteers for the prep days and 75 volunteers for the build day. Let me know if you can volunteer and I will keep you in the loop.

Here is the updated data on homes for sale in Edgewood. I am using Redfin because it allows you to search by neighborhood, but if you have any other ideas or ways to get listings or open houses please let me know!

Edgewood has a very diverse housing stock with a wide range of sizes and prices. Right now the most expensive places listed is a 3-bedroom home in Chancellor's Row listed for $799,000 while the least expensive listing is a condo listed at $210,000. It seems that there continues to be a steady number of houses selling across the price ranges and there are quite a few pending sales that have yet to be posted. The overall number of houses in the neighborhood for sale continues to be low as of right now there are less then 14 places listed for sale. Houses have been going fast as I have attended a few open houses where there were 25-50 people lined up before they even started! A couple of places have sold before they even went on the market.
There are 56 sales posted for 2014 so far:
