Community Forklift is “Halfing” a Birthday Party on June 15

Hey Everyone!

Nancy here, from Community Forklift, the DC area's Thrift Store for Home Improvement & Architectural Salvage.  I know that we have a lot of "Forklift Fans" on this listserve, so I want to share some exciting updates about our 7 1/2 Year Birthday Party here at Community Forklift.   Don't forget: it's going to be a big family fun event at our warehouse in Edmonston MD, just 15 minutes away from Edgewood.   Details below.

Our June 15th party will start at 9:30amand keep going until 5:30pm.

Bring your friends, your family, your neighbors and your (leashed) pets!  The celebration will include:

 

DIY WORKSHOPS: Hour-long workshops are designed to help attendees complete that half-finished project at home. The schedule includes: 9:30 a.m.: Handtools 101 With Mr. Fix-it; 11 a.m.: Watermelon Carving;12:30 p.m.: Building a Backyard Chicken Coop; 2 p.m. Installing a Rain Barrel; 3:30 p.m.: Restoring an Antique Table 

 

LIVE MUSICJoin in our 1st annual local live music festival – show off your moves on the dance floor, or bring a lawn chair to relax and enjoy good tunes! The Forklift will transform one of its loading docks into a stage for local bands. Panmasters, a steel drum band, plays at 9:30 a.m. Wild Anacostias, featuring New Orleans jazz, playsat 11 a.m. Those two acts are followed by Doublethink, an acoustic rock band, at 12:30 p.m. and M.R. Jam Band, playing classic rock and rhythm and blues, at 3:30 p.m.

 

CAKE CONTEST: Bakers who create cakes that best represent the "half-birthday" theme will be eligible for Forklift gift certificates. Enter your cake in the contest by 11 a.m. so Forklift fans can begin judging. Winners will be announced at noon. 

 

CRAFTS FOR KIDS: SCRAP-DC is co-sponsoring a creative space for children to create their own musical instruments from recycled materials.

 

COMMUNITY ART PROJECT:Community Site Painter Mike McMullin will be here to inspire and guide our Forklift Fans in the creation of an upcycled piece of art work. The resulting painting will be permanently displayed in our Reuse Resource Room for the whole community to enjoy.

 

SALE SPECIALS: All Forklift appliances, power and hand tools, and granite and marble countertops are half price.
