Busy Weekend in Edgewood!

This past weekend was a busy one for Edgewood and I am sorry about not updating beforehand and hope everyone made it out to some of the activities - many of them will be repeated. I was on holiday for almost three weeks and since then have been catching up with work, community and social obligations. I am back now and promise to keep up with the blog better!!

This past Saturday was the Edgewood Monthly Neighborhood Cleanup and it was expanded to plant flowers and a community garden at the Edgewood Rec Center. There were many volunteers, young and old, throughout the course of the day and I had a great time working with everyone! The above picture is just some of the group that was there.

Also on Saturday was the Meet the Met celebration for the Metropolitan Branch trail and while I was only there early in the morning I was very impressed. There were booths from many of the community organizations and corporate sponsors, they planted a community garden along the trail, there were bikes to rent and prizes being given away, music, and a community arts and crafts sale that I believe will be going on every Saturday in June!

Chancellor’s Row Grand Opening May 8th

The Chancellor’s Row development of new rowhouses in Edgewood is having their grand opening on May 8th and they have already updated their website with floor plans and prices. The above picture is the site plan taken from their website. This development is going to add over 200 new homes to our neighborhood and help increase the population and tax base to bring more retail and interest in our neighborhood. From the looks of the designs and layout they are trying to make the new houses blend in with the existing neighborhood. I am jealous of the optional garages and the outdoor decks and patios. The prices are listed from $469,000+.

Here is the website with the information on the project:

This has been a busy weekend for Edgewood - groundbreaking of Artspace Lofts, construction starting at Rhode Island Station and the opening of the new section of the Metropolitan Branch Trail!!!! I hope that the changes keep coming!

Groundbreaking on Artspace Lofts

I attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the Artspace Lofts today and the ceremony was incredible. They had performances and speakers from all the groups that contributed and I think this project is a great addition to the Edgewood community.

More details on the project can be found at their website:

Groundbreaking on Artspace Lofts

The official groundbreaking for the Dance Place and Artspace Lofts will be Friday April 30th. There will be a performance before the groundbreaking. This is exciting news as the development moves forward and a great addition to the Edgewood community (even though they call it Brookland - it is located in Edgewood!!).

Here is a link to the project website with all the details about the project which is expected to be completed with a Grand Opening in June 2011. There is also more information about the groundbreaking and an email to RSVP.
